Lilliburlero
page 6 of the score
The melody for the popular British ballad Lilliburlero first appeared in print in Robert Carr’s 1686 instruction book for the recorder.
Date of my arrangement: 2019
Duration: 2:53 minutes
Instrumentation: S.A.T.B.GB.Cb.
Solo and tutti sections. May also be played with one player per part, although you will lose some of the dynamic contrasts.
My arrangement incorporates musical material derived from Henry Purcell’s arrangement for harpsichord and the jig he wrote as part of the incidental music for the play The Gordian Knot Untied. Each of the six recorder parts have melodic phrases, and there are contrasts of tempo, dialog of high and low recorders, and tutti vs. solo sections.
